The Basics

I made my blog for my friends and family so they can learn how to coupon with just some quick basic information. So here it is, I hope everyone enjoys their savings.

  • Buy your papers in sets of 2. The bigger your family the more sets you need. Family of 2 probably only needs 2 or 4 papers. Family of 4 should probably get 6 to 8 papers
  • You need to decide what kind of shopper you want to be to organize your coupons. If you only want to match your coupons to the store ads and cut out only the coupons you know your going to use then you'll want to organize your coupon inserts by Date and Name. If you want to grab every deal that pops up you'll probably want to cut out every coupon of products you would like to get if it were free or really cheap. Example-I don't cut out diaper coupons because I don't need them. I do cut out make-up coupons and other items I wouldn't normally buy because they may be free after coupon. I'm always up for trying new products if they're free.
  • You can usually print 2 coupons per computer (not printer so if you share a network printer it is ok) just hit the back button to print again. I recommend figuring out which way your paper prints so you can flip the paper and print second coupon on same paper. Also change your print setting to black & white and draft. All the store needs is the bar code and date they don't care if the picture is pretty.
  • You can use one store (or store competitor) coupon and one manufacturer coupon per item. Check with your local store to see what competitor coupons, if any, they take. This is called stacking.
  • If there is a BOGO sale you can use one coupon on the buy one and one coupon on the get one. If your lucky you can use one store and one manufacturer coupon per item. Example-Publix currently has Solo cups on BOGO for $3.49. My Publix takes Winn Dixie coupons which recently put a $1/2 coupon out and I have a Solo manufacturer coupon $1/2. I save $2 on the BOGO deal and get two packages of Solo cups for $1.49!
  • If you have a BOGO manufacturer coupon and the product is on a BOGO sale you get them both for FREE!!!!!
So there are the very basics. I am working on a small book or couponing guide that I hope to have ready by the end of summer. So start gathering your papers and coupons and visit my blog to know where to shop and get your deals. I am also thinking of making coupon starter kits and maybe having coupon classes or party's if people are interested. So let me know if you are and I'll arrange something. Thanks for visiting!
